  10. class, registry number NCC-2893. The Stargazer was
  11. under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard from
  12. 2333-2355 on a historic mission of deep-space
  13. exploration, prior to his assignment to the
  14. Enterprise-D. Lieutenant Jean-Luc Picard was a bridge
  15. officer on the Stargazer when its captain was killed.
  16. Picard took command of the bridge and was later
  17. offered command of the ship for his actions.
  18. ("Tapestry" [TNG]). During an exploratory mission to
  19. Sector 21503, the Stargazer was attacked by
  20. Cardassian forces and barely escaped. ("The Wounded"
  21. [TNG]). During Picard's command, the Stargazer
  22. visited planet Chalna in 2354. ("Allegiance" [TNG]).
  23. The starship was destroyed near the Zeta Maxia star
  24. system by what was later learned to be a Ferengi
  25. vessel. Years later, the Ferengi Bok returned the
  26. hulk of the Stargazer to Picard as part of a plot to
  27. discredit Picard for what Bok believed to be
  28. Picard's part in his son's death. ("The Battle"
  29. [TNG]). Following the loss of the Stargazer in 2355,
  30. Picard was court-martialed per standard Starfleet
  31. procedure, but cleared of wrong-doing. The prosecutor
  32. in the case was Phillipa Louvois, with whom Picard
  33. had been romantically involved. ("The Measure of a
  34. Man" [TNG]).

  36. The Stargazer was designed by Andrew Probert and Rick
  37. Sternbach. The miniature was built by Greg Jein. A
  38. smaller model of the Stargazer was on display in
  39. Captain Picard's ready room aboard the Enterprise-D.
  40. The dedication plaque on the bridge of the Stargazer
  41. bore the motto, devised by episode writer Herb
  42. Wright, "To bring light into the darkness."

  57. Sektor 21503 griffen Cardassianer die Stargazer an
  58. und das Schiff entkam nur mit knapper Not. ("Der
  59. Rachefeldzug" [TNG]). Unter Picards Kommando besuchte
  60. die Stargazer 2354 den Planeten Chalna.
  61. ("Versuchskaninchen" [TNG]). Das Raumschiff wurde von
  62. einem Ferengischiff - damals noch unbekannt - nahe
  63. des Zeta Maxia Sternensystems zerstört. Jahre später
  64. wurde die Stargazer von dem Ferengi Bok zurückgegeben.
  65. Er benutzte es als Köder für Picard, um seinen Ruf zu
  66. zerstören. Er war überzeugt, daß Picard Schuld an dem
  67. Tod seines Sohnes hatte. ("Die Schlacht von Maxia"
  68. [TNG]). Nach dem Verlust der Stargazer im Jahre 2355
  69. gab es eine Anhörung (Standardprozedur der
  70. Sternenflotte), die Picard von jeglicher Schuld
  71. freisprach. Die Anklägerin war Philippa Louvois, mit
  72. der Picard ein Verhältnis hatte. ("Wem gehört Data?"
  73. [TNG]).

  75. Die Stargazer wurde von Andrew Probert und Rick
  76. Sternbach entworfen. Das Model wurde von Greg Jein
  77. gebaut. Ein kleineres Model stand in Picards
  78. Bereitschaftsraum auf der Enterprise-D. Die
  79. Indienststellungsplakette auf der Brücke der Stargazer
  80. trug das Motto: "Licht in die Dunkelheit zu bringen."
  81. Die Idee stammte von dem Schreiber von Episoden, Herb
  82. Wright.
